How to Build a Daily Reading Habit

A few small, realistic steps that help you read a little every day and keep going.

Most people do not need more willpower to read more, they need an easier routine.

Start small. Ten pages or ten minutes a day is enough at the beginning. A small goal is easy to keep, and once the habit exists you will naturally read for longer.

Pick a fixed time. Reading before sleep, with your morning coffee or during your commute works well because it attaches the habit to something you already do every day.

Keep the book where you can see it. A book on your bedside table or in your bag gets read far more often than one on a shelf in another room.

Choose books you actually enjoy. If a book does not grab you after the first chapters, it is fine to put it aside and try another one. Reading should feel rewarding, not like a duty.

Try different formats. Short story collections, essays and light novels are a good way back into reading if you have not read for a while.

Keep a simple list of the books you finish. Seeing the list grow is a quiet and effective motivation.
